A Emberly company - serving Kirkland, WA

Gelco Flue Liner Replacement Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Gelco Flue Liner Replacement: The Kirkland Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Gelco-compatible flue liner replacement in Kirkland, with typical installed pricing running $2,800-$4,500 depending on liner diameter, height, and whether the existing liner pulls cleanly or has shifted in the chase. Most Gelco stainless liner replacements we book in Kirkland are completed in a single day, and we carry common Gelco diameters and connector fittings on our trucks. Homeowners usually discover the problem during a routine sweep when the camera shows gaps, corrosion pitting, or separations at the collar joints, or when they notice mortar debris in the firebox after a chimney fire.

Which Gelco Models This Applies To

Gelco’s stainless steel flue liner systems fall into two main series that we see in Kirkland homes: the Gelco Pro-Series (304-alloy, 0.006-inch wall) and the Gelco UltraPro (316Ti-alloy, 0.006-inch or 0.010-inch heavy-wall). The Pro-Series was common in spec builds around Totem Lake and Finn Hill from roughly 2008 to 2016; the UltraPro with its titanium-stabilized alloy handles the acidic exhaust from modern high-efficiency appliances better and lasts longer in our wet Pacific Northwest cycles.

To identify what you have, look for the stamped band near the top termination, usually 12 to 18 inches below the rain cap. The alloy grade (304 or 316Ti) and nominal diameter are embossed there. If the band is corroded off, we measure the inner diameter with a caliper and check the wall thickness at an exposed collar. Gelco uses proprietary twist-lock collars at 18-inch intervals, so an aftermarket liner must either match that pattern or be adapted with a fabricated connector. We source both OEM Gelco and compatible 316Ti liners through our Haven buying network, and we’ll show you the difference on camera before you decide. The camera doesn’t lie, and neither does the invoice.

Signs Your Gelco Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing

Signs Your Gelco Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing
  • Flakes or grit in the firebox after burning. This is spalling refractory or degraded liner wall shedding into the combustion zone. With Gelco 304 liners in Kirkland’s moisture-heavy climate, we’ve seen this start as early as year 8 when the appliance runs cool and condensates against the flue wall.
  • White or green powder at collar joints. That’s chloride stress corrosion, accelerated by salt air drifting off Lake Washington and Puget Sound. The 304 alloy is especially vulnerable; 316Ti resists it better but isn’t immune if the chase leaks.
  • Smoke odor in upstairs rooms when the fireplace is cold. A separated twist-lock collar or liner shift has opened a gap between liner sections. Combustion gases and creosote odor migrate through the chase cavity into wall penetrations.
  • Visible gaps or daylight from the firebox looking upward. The liner has dropped, cracked at a joint, or corroded through. This is a carbon monoxide pathway and means the system is out of service until repaired.
  • Water staining on the chimney breast or adjacent ceiling. A failed top plate seal combined with liner deterioration lets chase moisture reach interior finishes. In Kirkland’s Juanita Beach and South Rose Hill neighborhoods, we see this paired with saturated insulation that adds cost if it’s not caught early.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range (Kirkland)
Gelco-compatible 304 liner, standard pull (straight run, 15-25 ft) $2,800-$3,400
Gelco-compatible 316Ti liner, standard pull $3,200-$3,900
Heavy-wall 316Ti or offset/offset with multiple bends $3,800-$4,500
Top plate replacement, storm collar, rain cap $280-$450 (if needed)
Chase pan repair or replacement $340-$680 (if needed)

What drives the range: liner diameter (5.5-inch to 8-inch are common for Gelco), total linear feet, number of offsets, and whether the existing liner can be extracted without dismantling the surround. Every quote we deliver in Kirkland is written, line-itemed, and signed before work starts, per Haven Standard Clause 1. The price includes NFPA 211 Level 2 camera inspection, the documented photo record required by Clause 4, and our 365-Day Done Right Promise on the installation.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a short, honest list of what a Kirkland homeowner can safely check: verify the rain cap is present and secure, look down the flue with a flashlight for obvious gaps or debris, and confirm the appliance connector hasn’t pulled loose at the thimble. That’s it.

What goes wrong fast: pulling a stuck liner without proper extraction tools can collapse the liner into the chase, turning a liner replacement into a chase rebuild. The twist-lock collars bind after years of thermal cycling, and the force needed to free them risks damaging the chimney structure or the appliance connection. More critically, a liner that has seen a chimney fire may have hidden wall thinning that isn’t visible from the firebox. We find this with the camera, not by guesswork. Corrine Halstead and our crew have extracted Gelco liners from homes throughout Kirkland, including several in the older stock near Juanita Beach where chase dimensions don’t match modern specs. If you’re seeing symptoms, call (425) 642-3485 and we’ll scope it before you commit to anything.
